Downsizing....
Well, we are on the road to downsizing. We were "dreaming" one afternoon about traveling in the motor home while remodeling it and now we are really doing it.
We put the house on the market on Tuesday and in about 3 days we have had about 12 people go through. It doesn't matter if they go through it...as much as they have to like it enough to buy it. So we will see how long this takes. |
We are staying part of our time in Eden and we moved our stuff up over the weekend. We are excited for this new adventure but it is a little scary. It is definitely an adjustment but we are up for the challenge. It's amazing how much "stuff" you accumulate. It really is unnecessary.
Week 1: Well, my life has revolved around when our dogs poop. Yes, you heard me right. The dogs are used to having a doggy door and a backyard to go whenever they want so we are working out a compromise. Gil, of course, is traveling so I get the joy of trying to figure out when they want to go out to go to the bathroom and when they are just being a pain and want to go out and "play". They've discovered field mice...now THAT was fun. Bella actually caught one and you should have seen me pulling on her and Braska trying to get her to let it out of her mouth while I'm tangled up in two dog leashes. Now they are constantly on the "hunt" for mice which makes going to the bathroom even more challenging. |
Gil got home on Friday and we took the girls to the lake and walked on the nice walking path (we wished we had one around our condo) and Bella made a great friend. The cow actually licked her several times. They were kissing :-) I was surprised that Bella didn't freak out and bark. She really liked her new friend. We took them back to the condo and went to Carlos and Harley's for a beer with chips and salsa. Nice and cold!! That's how we like 'em. Garrett is headed home for the weekend from college so we'll enjoy some time with him as well. The remainder of the weekend we will be working a little on the house and motor home. We still have things we need to do down there until it sells. There's a recap...of week 1.
Week 2: Well, life changes fast in a week! In two days, our house had an offer. They offered full price so...we accepted and we are proceeding. We decided to come back to the house and stay over the weekend so we could continue working on things since things were moving quickly. So, instead of working on the house, what do we do? Tear up the motor home floor to replace it haha. We just thought it might be a good idea to try

and get this done while we have the house with the tools etc. So over the weekend Gil worked on the motor home and I work in the house. I actually stopped packing up the house because I was nervous if something doesn't go through, then the house is disassembled to continue showing. So the remainder of this week I just took it easy. I'm sure the next couple of weeks will be crazy but until then, I'm going to enjoy the down time. We are still waiting for the appraisal and the inspection but the loan officer has sent stuff over so it is moving forward.
Week 3: Gil traveled all week so I figured I'd come up to the condo. This gave Trent a bed at the old house and all my stuff is up at the condo, so it makes it easier on me as well. It gets kind of lonely up here by yourself so I decided to just bring Braska and work with her on going to the bathroom on a lease (and not when she wants to with a doggy door). I figured it would be easier to

train one dog than two and actually Braska does pretty good. I knew the weather was going to be bad so I'd rather have a dog that "gets it" than bring one I'm trying to convince. The inspector came to the house (without notice, I might add which was a little stressful) and only recommended screens on a couple windows, servicing the furnace, and unclogging the drain in the basement, all doable things. The appraiser came as well but we've not heard back from him yet. As you can tell by the picture above, it REALLY snowed on Monday. Today is Friday and it is really nice today. I decided to take Braska for a walk and a gentleman two condos down let me know that dogs were not allowed in the complex. I acted stupid...then as he learned more about me, he said "But I won't be telling on you". So that was comforting. I'm not sure how long we are going to get away with not only having one dog but two dogs here but we will figure that out once we cross that bridge. Summer is coming and we can stay in the motor home if we need to. It is definitely an adventure!
Week 4: Well we were kind of on "coast" mode this week. Gil was in town but he got sick, which he NEVER does. We took him to the doctor twice because he felt so bad. Then he felt like it was only fair to share so we have both been under the weather this week. My mom and I did go help Trent look for an apartment and found a great one that might work. We are trying to get him qualified for reduced income housing but he is right on the line, so we will see. Gil and I got quite a bit done this weekend on the house even though we didn't feel 100% and now it is Sunday and I'm so sick, I can hardly stand being with myself. Hopefully by tomorrow, I'll feel better. We have three more weeks until closing and one of those weeks, Gil is out of town. We are starting to work on the kitchen as well in the motor home so hopefully we can get that accomplished in the next two weeks.
Week 5: Well, we are still hanging on to these colds. We've tried to be productive but our coughs and congestion are getting the best of us. We didn't get much done during the week but we got a lot done this weekend. The kitchen in the motorhome is almost completely done and we got two loads to storage and one to mom's house. We're getting there!
|
Week 6: This week entailed finishing painting the kitchen counters in the RV, ordering the granite counter top, and holding a garage sale. Once we get rid of the last little bit of stuff...we are ready to close. The only stuff left at the house is Trent's stuff. The house is getting more and more empty and it is a little strange. I'm glad we are doing this by choice and not a death. That kind of hit me this week that this would be much harder if that were under those circumstances. I'm not sure I'd be able to do it. Next week...we close!
|
Week 7: Well...it's final. We spent the week doing the last final things to the house and moved the motorhome. We closed on Friday but had Saturday to get the house cleaned and finish up any last details. We had to pack up Trent's things and store it for the next week because he can't move in until next weekend. Whew! We are done! Feels good to have it done and moving on to our next adventure!
|
Week 8: Well this week we held steady for the week and then moved Trent into his apartment over the weekend. It didn't take long at all to get his stuff in the apartment then Trent and I enjoyed the day getting everything settled. It is such a cute place and close to work. He has his own place and is not rooming with anyone. I think he will like having his very own home.
|
Week 9: Gil's brothers, Butch and Marshall, came to visit and to go fishing with Gil and the crew down the Green River. We showed them around Salt Lake City as well as got together with the whole "Elmy Clan". It was fun to see them and show them around our state. It just wasn't long enough. There is so much to see around here.
|
Week 10: This week Gil had to work so I'm parked at Anderson Cove to camp a few days. We really didn't need to but I was stressed out with the HOA at the condo a few weeks ago and asked him to make this reservation so I didn't have to deal with them and could just rest in peace. Things are better now but we already had the reservation. The weather has been really good and relaxing. The dogs have really enjoyed it as well.
